1/13/2024 0 Comments La zebra colibri tulum![]() ![]() The water was so inviting, my son literally ran in with his clothes on while we were still at the front desk. As you check in, you are immediately given a welcome cocktail (for adults), homemade juice (for kids). A beautiful and well-maintained place with a super friendly staff. My family stayed at La Zebra for 7 nights - though we wish it was longer. This may have just been the time of year. They work hard to clear it in the morning, but it's sort of a hopeless cause. Seagrass prevented us from swimming in the ocean which was a disappointment. The hotel takes cards, but most of the restaurants in Tulum only accept cash (pesos or dollars). Toilet paper cannot be flushed and once or twice, housekeeping forgot to empty the wastebasket in our room after cleaning -The ATM outside of the hotel charges a pretty hefty fee, as do the other ATMs in the immediate surrounding area. Keep in mind that the shower within the hotel room is open with two shower heads and has little privacy. We preferred the restaurant for breakfast and lunch - delicious huevos rancheros and chilaquiles, but hotel is situated on a street lined with many hotels and restaurants, all within walking distance. If you're staying in the summer, I'd recommend springing for a room that has a plunge pool - we regretted not choosing this option immediately, especially after realizing the ocean situation (see below). We stayed in one of the more modern rooms, which was spacious (even with three people) and had two balconies. The service was exceptional and the welcome mojito after hours of planes/trains/autombiles snapped everyone out of a deliriously sleepy state. We were so impressed with La Zebra from the moment we arrived. This was our first time staying at a Tulum hotel (we usually rent houses there), but I wouldn't hesitate to stay with LZ again. Service was great, food was very tasty (traditional shrimp ceviche was the best we've ever had) and the wait and hotel staff was awesome. LZ staff is fantastic! Everyone is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The sargassum situation in Tulum is very sad right now, but LZ did a great job keeping the beach clean - which I think keeps the water cleaner too (not washing weed in and out all the time with the tides). They advertise that they only have Wifi in the hotel and restaurant, but we had a strong signal in our room as well. They offer a coffee bar for those of us who are early risers and want our morning java before they open for breakfast. The bed and linens were comfortable and the room was very quiet. The shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. The room was very comfortable with a nice garden view, AC and a mini fridge. Stayed with my hubby in Cabana #6 - beachside King. ![]()
